San Francisco Neighborhoods - Castro Real Estate
Basking in the warm sun on the eastern side of Twin
Peaks, lies the Castro. Rainbow flags raised high, out and proud lesbian,
gay, bisexual, and transgender folk find comfort and fun on the streets
of the Castro. Over the past 25 years, the Castro has become the center
of San Francisco's gay community. The concept, as well as the reality,
of an all-queer neighborhood draws queer tourists and their friends
from around the world, carrying the already absolutely fabulous Castro
scene over-the-top. The out and about are the main attraction on the
picture-perfect streets. The neighborhood's main commercial crossroads
is the corner of Castro and Market Streets. Harvey Milk Plaza, on the
southwest corner, is named for San Francisco's first openly gay supervisor.
